Abstract:
The surfaces of QT600 rotor, of an air compressor, were modified and reconditioned with AlCrN coatings synthesized by multi arc ion plating. The influence of the AlCrN coatings on the microstructures, phases and tribological properties, including the hardness, wear resistance and friction coefficient, was investigated with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and conventional mechanical probes. The results show that the AlCrN coatings, mainly comprising AlCrN,CrN,AlN phased grains and deposited under the optimized conditions significantly improved the tribological behavior of QT600 rotor surface, especially the friction coefficient and wear resistance. The adhesive wear, at a load of 2 N and abrasive wear, at a load of 8 N,were found to account for the wear mechanisms, respectively.
