Abstract:
Herein,we addressed the property modification of 6063 Al-alloy by Sr-doping in an induction furnace. The influence of the Sr-content on the microstructures and tribological properties was investigated with X-ray diffraction and conventional mechanical probes. The results show that depending on Sr-content,Sr-doping had a major impact. For example,as the Sr-content increased from 0.10%(wt) to 0.50%,the grain-size changed in a decrease-increase manner, minimized at a Sr-content of 0.20%,the hardness and tensile strength varied in an increase-decrease mode, peaking at 0.20% with the strongest hardness of 91.29 HB.As the Sr-contents increased to over 0.5%,an increase of the dendrite Al
4Sr-phase,formed in the co-existing α-Al and Mg
2Si phases,significantly weakened the modified mechanical properties of Sr-doped 6063 Al-alloy,because Mg
2Si precipitation was decreased.
