Latest Advance in Synthesisand Modification of Catalysts with Low Temperature Plasma

  • The latest development in synthesis and modification of catalysts,at nano scales with low temperature(LT)plasma,was briefly reviewed.The discussions with specific examples focused on:i)The advangtages of LT-plasma over conventioanl synthesis/modification techniques of catalysts,including but not limited to the milder reaction conditions,fewer limitations,high-energy electrons/ions-induced direct/indirect oxidation/reduction/creation of active sites,larger reaction area,faster reaction-rate,lower carbon accumulation/contamination,much less agglomeration/sintering of catalyst frameworks,higher efficiency,greater environmental friendliness and lower energy consumption;ii)Strengths/weakness of LT-plasma sources available,including the glow/corona/dielectric-barrier discharges and plasma jet;iii)The impact of LT-plasma irradiation on the characteristics of catalysts.Moreover,the development trends,basic and technological problems and possible solutions in synthesis/modification of catalysts with LT-plasma were also tentatively discussed in a thought provoking way.
