Abstract
The influence of friction-pair type on the microstructures and tribological behavior of high-speed steel surfaces, modified with CrAlSiN coatings synthesized by pulsed laser cladding, was investigated with X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microcopy(SEM),energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),and ball-on-disc tester. The results show that evaluation of tribological behavior depends on the friction pair properties. For example, when a friction pair of 316 stainless-steel was slid, shallow wide wear-tracks formed on the CrAlSiN,because of large friction coefficient and small wear-rate; when TC11 Ti-alloy was slid, large deep wear-tracks formed, because of large wear-rate.The similarity of the two friction pairs was that their wear mechanisms were abrasive-wear and adhesive-wear.By the way, high density of pin-holes,pits and while particles was found to exist on the porous hard CrAlSiN coatings, with strong interfacial adhesion and 2.5 μm in thickness.
