Residential-Heating Mode for Cogeneration System: A Case Study of Thermal Power-Plant Renovation

  • Herein,we addressed via case study the residential heating technologies of cogeneration or combined heat and power(CHP) system,a renovated thermal power plant. When it comes to utilization of waste-energy of thermal power plant, the heat transformation technologies include:the steam-turbine extraction,heat-pump absorption and low-grade heat utilization modes. The advantages and weaknesses of the heat-transformation modes were discussed with experimental results and theoretical analysis. We found that the low-grade heat utilization mode is the best.To be specific, the low-grade heat utilization mode outperforms the other two modes because of its strengths, including, but not limited to higher utilization efficiency of low-grade heat, smaller heating energy consumption, lower maintenance cost, larger room for heating capacity expansion, and most important, better economic impact. We suggest that the results be of some technological interest for renovation of conventional thermal power plants.
