Pumping Capacity for Keeping Low-Pressure in Low-Temperature Multi-Effect Desalination: A Theoretical Calculation

  • The influence of the release of non-condensable gas, escape of steam, and leakage of air on the optimized pumping-capacity,required to keep a pressure below 90 kPa in low-temperature multi-effect desalination(LT-MED)of seawater, was mathematically modeled and theoretically calculated. The original work was a more precise approximation of CO2-release and air-leakage.For instance, the dependence of CO2-release on the realistic situations, including but not limited to the initial temperature, evaporation temperature, salt solubility,pH-value,flow-rate and volume of the seawater-intake,could be calculated analytically and/or numerically. Moreover, the air-leakage was approximated to be a function of pressure and volume. The tentative discussions focused on the detailed calculation of specific cases. We suggest that the self-modified calculation, closer to the realistic situation,be of some basic and technological interest in development of LT-MED of seawater technology on industrial scale.
