Design and Simulation Software for Fume Extraction Unit of RH Vacuum Refining Furnace

  • A software package was developed for simulation of reactions involved and for design of the fume extraction unit of RH vacuum refining furnace in metallurgical industry, a vacuum system pumped only with dry mechanical vacuum pumps, like Roots and screw pumps.The discussions with specific examples focused on the multitasks of the self-developed simulation software, including but not limited to i) the design optimization of vacuum system comprising components of dry vacuum-pumps, gas-path and control unit;ii) mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of the deoxidization/decarburization/degassing of molten steel in RH refining furnace;and (iii) data acquisition/analysis and evaluation of pump's behavior in all levels, such as the pumping speed, efficiency, fume extraction capacity and etc.We suggest that the newly-developed simulation program may be of some technological interest in design and operation of RH vacuum refining furnace.
