Abstract
Herein, we experimentally addressed the problem of oxidation and volatility of Al in formation of Fe-Cr-Al alloy by melting in 150 kg vacuum induction furnace. The influence of the pressure and molten-steel temperature on the Al yielding rate was investigated under the four pre-designed melting conditions, involving the timing and sequence of additions of C, Al, Si, Mn and recycled Fe-Cr-Al alloy scraps into the molten steel. The results show that with 0.01% (wt.) C-content added to the cold raw materials before melting, the highest Al yielding rate could be 97.4% under the optimized conditions, including a liquid-steel temperature of 1500℃, a pressure of 30 Pa.When it comes to melting of only recycled Fe-Cr-Al scraps, the Al yielding rate was 95.6% at most.
