Influence of Dielectric Layer Properties on Discharge Efficiency of ACC-Plasma Display Panel: An Experimental Study

  • Herein, we reported the optimization of ACC-plasma display panel.The effect of the relative permittivity (εr) and thickness (d) of the dielectric layer on the discharge properties, including the firing voltage, static margin, luminous efficacy and vacuum ultra-violet (VUV) emission was investigated with the lab-built test platform equipped with intensified charge coupled device video camera and spectrometer.The results show that the εr/d ratio of the dielectric layer had a major impact.To be specific, as the εr/d ratio increased, the electric field and electron temperature in cathode region increased; and the intensity of VUV emission from the discharge-produced excimers sharply increased, resulting in a significant increase of the luminous efficacy, in spite of the increasing energy loss in the discharge.
